About the Owner
Camila Carrasco Thomas is the owner and primary care provider for Mundo de
Colores. She is a highly qualified provider and childcare professional with
experience since 2001. Camila was born in the beautiful Dominican Republic.
After living in Miami and New York City she has called Minnesota home for the
last 10 years. She owned and operated successful childcare facilities in Milwaukee
before deciding to move close to family here in Minneapolis.
Camila has now opened Mundo de Colores to continue her work with children.
Camila's mission is to prepare children of all backgrounds to succeed in school
and provide a place for cross cultural exchange, learning and enrichment.
The Curriculum
At Mundo de Colores we strive to meet the growing demand for early childhood
education in a bilingual setting. Through games and song routines, our goal is to
help preschoolers transition into school by focusing on early reading, phonetic
discrimination and basic phonics in English and Español. We use music and art to
encourage the development of fine motor skills, expression and high self-esteem.
For schooled-aged students we work with basic phonics and whole word methods
including word walls, read aloud books and math explorations to add to and
complement their school work.
Daily Activities
Daily activites focus on the development of language, confidence, and the use
of large and small muscles. Children learn new ideas and skills, are exposed to a
variety of cultures and participate in imaginative play. PLAY is the major
component of our program.
Children have the opportunity to use a variety of art materials, books,
manipulative toys and housekeeping equipment. Children go outdoors daily when
weather permits.
School aged children have a quiet place to study and relax, partake in
physical activities, and participate in food preparation.
Preschool children have the opportunity to use a wide variety of art materials,
play equipment, and learning games.
Infants and toddlers are kept on a flexible schedule that reflects a growing
baby's changing needs. They are given lots of individual attention.
Nutrition
Mundo de Colores Family Childcare participates in Minnesota Licensed Family
Child Care Association (MLFCCA) food program and we follow their nutritional
guidelines when planning menus. Each child will receive nutritious breakfast,
lunch, and PM snack prepared on the premises. School-aged children will be offered
a snack upon returning from school as well as any other meals that are served
while they are here.
Mundo de Colores is a licensed child care facility conveniently located in the
Central community of South Minneapolis, just minutes from Downtown, Uptown and
Mall of America.
